Isaac Ramirez Marrero

Postdoctoral Associate
iarm@mit.edu

Isaac received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, in December 2024. In his PhD, he studied the effect of polymer chemistry and environmental medium on the mechanical properties of polyelectrolyte complexes under the supervision of Sarah Perry. Prior to his PhD, he obtained his BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez. More recently, he worked with Simon Rogers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he investigated the optical and mechanical properties of bottlebrush block copolymers for direct-ink printing. In the Brushett Group, Isaac will develop electrochemical approaches for di- and tri-valent ion sequestration, hydrophilic microporous membranes for ionic separations, and bio-scaffolded enzymes for the recovery of specific metal ions at ppb levels.
